Local Photographer Captures ‘the Perfect June Day’ at Historic Cummins-Phipps-Grill Home**(Kelley Regan)

Photographer captures a “breathtaking” moment.

The Cummins-Phipps-Grill house set the stage for this Kelley Regan photograph, which placed third in our annual photo contest’s City Landmarks division. “I took this particular picture at an event held at the Cummins-Phipps-Grill home last summer,” she says. “It was a perfect June day, and the entire peony garden was in bloom. With over 500 plants all flowering at the same time, it was breathtaking.”

As a board member with the Eden Prairie Historical Society, Regan is no stranger to the home. “I love taking photos of historical structures, and this one has so much character that I’ve taken quite a few pictures of this particular home,” she says. “If you’ve never visited the house then it is a must-see. The historical society has done a wonderful job preserving and restoring the 1867 homestead, and it comes with such an interesting and rich history.”

Regan goes on to say, “I love historical architecture, old homes and especially old barns. The character, richness and variant angles of the structure make for perfect photography subjects. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph Green Acres Event Center, a historical barn in Eden Prairie that’s been stunningly renovated. Another favorite is the Riley-Jacques Barn, located in Eden Prairie, as well.”
